Real Talk: 5 Self-Help Books You Need to Read

I just had a conversation with my mom over the weekend about the books on my bookshelves. I told her I'm a little embarrassed about them because the large majority of books I read are categorized as self-help books. I just truly believe in always learning, growing, and becoming the best self you can possibly be. It's funny that in my head it's embarrassing because anytime someone new comes to my house and sees these books on my shelves, they ask about them. I'm realizing that we need to embrace helping ourselves and be proud of it. Continuing to grow as a person is never a bad thing so today I wanted to open the conversation for just that.self-help books That being said, I wanted to share the 5 self-help books you need to read right now. These are all books I've read and have learned a major lesson from, and I think you will too! Scary Close: Dropping the Act and Finding True Intimacy by Donald Miller -- This book will make you re-evaluate everything you think about intimacy. Donald Miller dives deep into how we truly connect with people. If you feel like you're not connecting to people the way you want to, this book is for you. Love Does: Discover a Secretly Incredible Life in an Ordinary World by Bob Goff -- Bob is an AMAZING story-teller. This book is full of stories about his family and life. It's so full of inspiration and you will immediately want to start living out your own dreams. I could listen to Bob tell stories until the cows come home. If you're easily bored by books, give this one a go -- I'm positive it'll keep you entertained the entire way through. self-help booksYou Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero -- This was the first self-help book I ever picked up, and I was hooked immediately. This book taught me how to set goals, how to dream up the life I really want to live, and how to start taking the steps to achieve that life. Jen tells awesome stories, and her writing style is very relatable. I don't know why, but I love when authors swear in their books. I think it makes them more authentic, and I've heard that people only swear when they have a small vocabulary. That' obviously not true when authors are swearing! GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso -- This one was written by the founder of Nasty Gal. Her story is a literal rags to richs tale. She is brutally honest which I so appreciate. There aren't enough people in this world who are willing to tell you the nitty gritty of what it actually takes to be successful, Sophia Amoruso is one of those people. Start.: Punch Fear in the Face, Escape Average, and Do Work That Matters by Jon Acuff -- Jon goes through each stage of life matching up with a decade of life and gives a step-by-step of how to hone your skills to be successful. He talks a lot about fear and what holds us back from reaching our potential. This is an awesome book to start out with. Jon Acuff talks a lot about what we're currently doing and what we should be doing which is essential to identify if you're ready to make a change in your own life. I hope this list gave you some new reading material. Have you read any of the books on this list? What are your favorite self-help books?
