Mother's Day is right around the corner (May 8th), which means it's time for me to share my tips on how to choose the perfect gift for your mama. I've also shared some of my top gift picks. Moms are special creatures who don't take a lot of time for themselves, which means Mother's Day is the perfect time to spoil your mom. You can also spoil her any day of the year, really, if she's half as great as mine is (Hi mom! Don't worry, your gift isn't on here). Tip numero uno is to think of something that's special between the two of you. My mom and I took a cookie decorating class a few years ago and ever since have become obsessed with making cookies together. We even threw out (my dad ate) an entire batch of cookies last month because the color of icing didn't fit our standards. Can we say cookie snobs?! Anyway, getting a gift around something you share is a great personalized idea. For instance, I could get my mom cookie cutters (like the adorable cactus and pineapple ones above), icing dye, or a million other accessories that only #cookiesnobs would even know existed. Second, if your mom doesn't treat herself very often, buying her a luxury gift might be right up her alley. This doesn't have to be insanely expensive. Maybe a nice face mask, bubble bath, hand cream, lip gloss, etc. This could be anything that you know she'd love, but wouldn't buy herself. For some reason buying high-end items for other people seems so much easier than biting the bullet to buy them for yourself. My third tip is think about her hobbies. My mama loves to garden (although if you follow me on Instagram, you know she didn't pass that gene on to me). This little gardening tool belt is so cute! Maybe your mom loves to read, so a new book would be perfect for her. If she has ladies' wine night, buy her a bottle of her favorite wine. Ok, now I'm just making up things about my dream life if/when I have kids. Hellooooo wine night! My possibly most obvious tip is to get her something practical that you know she'll use. A new curling iron, her favorite perfume, a notebook, a coffee cup, etc. The coffee cup I included above is far too small for my mom, but maybe it'd work for yours. My mom likes to drink straight out of the pot and call it a cup. Just kidding! But really, she drinks out of giant coffee cups and then misplaces them around the house and reheats it over and over again. She's even been known to 'misplace' her coffee cup in the microwave after it's been reheated just in time for her to have to warm it back up again! Lastly, moms love to spend time with us. Buying her something material will likely not mean as much as spending time with her. Obviously, not everyone is as lucky as I am where I can pop over to my parents' house anytime I feel like it. If you do have that luxury, though, find something fun to do together. This could be a day of shopping, lunch, mani/pedis, going to a movie, getting your hair done, going for a run, making cookies and then making your dad eat them when they don't turn out as cute as planned, or just hanging out at their house for dinner. If you don't live close, the power of technology is really in our favor these days; video chat with your mom to say hi! Most importantly, make sure she knows you love her and you're thankful for everything she's done for you. I hope these tips helped you out and made the task of finding your mom's gift easy peasy lemon squeezy! xoxo, Sarah This is my mama & I a few years ago.
